How a naturaveda capsule is made, from the field to the sealed bottle
We sell directly, so you cannot pick up one of our bottles in a store and read the label before you decide. The next best thing is to show you how it is made. This page walks through every step of the process, names what we test and why, and states plainly where each part of the work happens.

The route from raw material to bottle
Seven steps sit between a plant in a field and a sealed bottle at your door. None of them is dramatic on its own. Together they decide whether the number printed on the label is a fact or an intention.
Choosing the growing partner
Every botanical starts with a decision about who grows it. We look for growers who can document the origin of the plant, the growing conditions, and the harvest year, and who can supply comparable material again in the following season. A raw material whose origin cannot be traced back to a specific field does not enter a formula, however good the price looks.
Harvesting at the right moment
The active compounds in a plant are not constant. They rise and fall with the season, with the part of the plant, and sometimes with the time of day it is cut. For each botanical we specify the plant part and the harvest window, because a root lifted too early or a leaf cut too late gives you a weaker extract at exactly the same weight on the label.
Incoming inspection of the raw material
Nothing is processed on the strength of a delivery note. Each incoming batch is identified, so that what arrives is the species that was ordered, and it is examined for moisture, appearance, and foreign matter. Material that fails at this point is rejected here, where it is still cheap to reject.
Gentle processing and extraction
Heat is the fastest way to lose what you paid for. Botanicals are dried and extracted under controlled low temperature conditions. Where the effect sits in a specific compound, we use a standardized extract with a declared ratio, for example the 10:1 mullein leaf extract in lungenfreund, so that a stated amount means the same thing in every batch.
Testing the finished batch for purity and content
Once a batch has been blended it is tested again, this time as the finished product rather than as separate raw materials. Two questions have to be answered: is the declared amount of each active actually present, and is the batch clean. A batch that does not answer both is not released for filling.
Filling in an FDA-registered facility
Filling, capsule closing, and packaging take place in an FDA-registered facility. Every bottle receives a batch code and a best-before date before it is sealed, which is what makes the next step possible at all.
Retention samples and batch traceability
A sealed sample of every production run is kept after the batch has shipped. If a question ever comes up about a bottle in your hands, the batch code printed on it leads back to that sample and to the records for that run. This step costs money, produces nothing to sell, and is the first thing a throwaway supply chain leaves out.
What we test, and why each test earns its place
Testing costs money and holds a batch up, which is why it is the first thing a cheap supply chain removes. These are the checks we do not skip.
Identity of the raw material
Confirms that the plant delivered is the species that was ordered. Substituting a cheaper, closely related species is the oldest problem in the botanical trade, and identity testing is what catches it before anything is processed.
Active content
Measures how much of the declared compound is actually present. Without that number an amount on a label is an intention rather than a fact, because 350 mg of a weak extract is not the same thing as 350 mg of a strong one.
Heavy metals
Plants take up what is in the soil they grow in, including lead, cadmium, mercury, and arsenic. This is tested because you cannot see it, smell it, or taste it, and because roots concentrate it more readily than leaves do.
Pesticide residues
Checks that residues from cultivation stay within the accepted limits. Controlled or organic growing lowers the risk considerably, but it does not replace the measurement on the material that actually arrived.
Microbiological load
Dried plant material is a natural product and carries a natural microbial count. Testing sets the limit for the total count and for specific organisms, so a batch is released on a measured result rather than on how it looks.
The rules we formulate by
A formula is mostly a set of decisions about what to leave out. These four rules decide what stays in, and they are the reason our labels are shorter than most.
Few actives, in a dose that does something
A formula with twenty ingredients reads as generous on the back of a bottle and is usually the opposite. There is only so much room in two capsules. We would rather carry six or seven botanicals at a working amount than twenty at a level that exists only to be printed.
Standardized extracts where they earn their place
Where the effect sits in a specific compound, we use a standardized extract with a declared ratio, so that 350 mg means the same thing in every bottle. Where the whole plant matters, or where concentrating it would change the character of the material, we use the powder and say so on the label instead of dressing it up.
No filler marketing
Ingredients added at a token amount so that a fashionable name can appear on the label do not go into our formulas. If something is in the bottle, it is in there to do a job, and the amount next to it is the amount that job needs.
No proprietary blend without amounts
Every active is listed with its own amount per daily dose. A blend that hides the individual quantities behind one combined figure makes it impossible for you to compare us with anyone else, and for most brands that is precisely the point of using one.
Where each part of the work actually happens
Brands in this category tend to keep this vague, and vagueness is exactly what makes people suspicious. So here it is in plain words. The same split is printed on the bottle you receive, and nothing on this website will ever contradict it.
Formulation and quality standard
The formulas, the specification for every raw material, and the testing standard behind them were developed in Germany by Michael Hartmann and the practitioners he works with. This is the German part of naturaveda, and it is the part that decides what ends up inside the capsule.
Manufacturing and filling
Production for the US market takes place in an FDA-registered facility. Our label says it in exactly those words: designed in Germany and made in an FDA-registered facility. We do not claim that the bottle is filled in Germany, because it is not.
Distribution
Orders in the United States are distributed by SCYENTIFIC BRANDS LLC, 5830 E 2nd Street, Casper, WY 82609. The same company name and address are printed on every bottle we ship, so the two can be matched.

I have spent more than thirty years around raw materials, and the lesson has never changed: you cannot repair a weak raw material later in the process. So we decide at the beginning instead of at the end. If a batch does not meet the specification, it does not go into a bottle, and we wait for one that does.
